The Inauguration of the 3rd President of Croatia, Mr. Ivo Josipovic took place at the St.Mark’s square in Zagreb at Thursday 18 at 12.00 hr. The Inauguration ceremony was attended by the presidents of Albania, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia, state and parliament delegations, the diplomatic corps, Croatian government officials and citizens of Zagreb.
Josipović took the oath before Constitutional Court President Jasna Omejec and court judges. He swore loyalty to the Constitution, and pledged that as head of state, he would watch over the functioning of state institutions, and protect the independence, existence and unity of Croatia.
The inauguration ceremony started with a performance of the National anthem followed by Josipović’s first speech as the President of Croatia.
The speech focused on the fight against corruption and crime, respect for justice, human rights and equity, developing good regional relations, and the Croatian Economy. The President thanked the attendants and promised to put to use all his knowledge and skill to live up to the expectations and trust of the Croatian citizens.
Mr. Josipovic is taking over the presidency after former President Stipe Mesić, who has been head of state since February, 2000. Mesić announced that “The transfer of power proceeded perfectly” and that he is leaving Croatia in good hands.
