Lectures on Corporate Social Responsibility in Norway

In December 2011, the Embassy in Zagreb organized a study trip to Oslo on the approach of Norwegian companies to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for Mr Robert Kakarigi. Mr Kakarigi is the managing director of “Ecogreen Europe”, which is disseminating information on Global Compact’s CSR-standards to Croatian companies. During his study trip, Mr Kakarigi met with experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), Ethical Trading Initiative Norway (IEH), the Agency for Public Management and e-Government (DIFI), and the company Green Energy Innovation Alliance (GEIA).
As a follow up to the study trip, the Embassy engaged Mr Kakarigi for a lecture tour this spring on “CSR in a global economy from a Norwegian perspective”. The target group was students at the faculties of economics at the universities in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek. Information on the lectures was also published on Internet portals for local companies. Many students had a keen interest in learning about CSR and the lectures were well received. A link to the most relevant Norwegian publications was published on a Croatian website which has been visited by quite a few after the lecture tour.
Croatia closed the accession negotiations with the EU in June 2011, and is now in the final phase before becoming a full member, most likely on 1 July 2013. The Embassy considers raising awareness on CSR standards as a useful contribution to Croatia’s EU integration process.
