Peer Gynt in Croatia

Last updated: 11/03/2010 // On March 10, 2010 at the City Drama Theater „Gavella“, the Royal Norwegian Embassy proudly presented and hosted the preview of Henrik Ibsen's world famous play "Peer Gynt". The Embassy had invited diplomats, ministers and state secretaries, representatives of local institutions, international organisations and associations. The Embassy had in addition invited a large number of contacts from the culture, economic, and justice sector.

The performance was directed by Aleksandar Popovski, a Macedonian movie and theatre director well known for his productions and work around the world. During the performance one could observe elements of drama, poetry, ballet, song and monologue and Popovski gave a special place to the Macedonian music group Foltin, mixing ethno and jazz rhythms.The play was performed in Croatian with English subtitles for the occasion.

The cast includes several famous Croatian actors such as Ozren Grabaric as Peer Gynt and Alma Prica, Bozidar Boban, and Mladen Vasari as guest actors.

The play has been commercialized around the town and the preview received broad media coverage. It will be performed another nine times during the months of March and April at the City Drama Theater.
